The 2009 Ann Arbor Street Art Fair Townie Party almost achieved 98% landfill diversion in the "Gold Tent" where 600 attendees enjoyed food, wine and local beer. 98% landfill diversion was possible through enhanced recycling efforts, and by using compostable plates, cups and cutlery. Adding the composting elemnt to the recycling effort made a huge difference in amount needing landfilling. All food vendors agreed to bring containers that they would reuse or recycle and drinking water was provided by fountains installed by the city for this event. Volunteers were also a primary reason for the success of this event by being present at the recycling stations and answering questions or guiding attendees to the approporiate bin.
